South Carolina has signed an edge rusher from the transfer portal with a very familiar last name.

Program legend and former No. 1 overall draft pick Jadeveon Clowney, currently with his hometown Carolina Panthers, terrorized opposing quarterbacks during his time with the Gamecocks over a decade ago. Now, his cousin, Demon Clowney, has joined the program, according to 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer.

South Carolina marks the fourth program for Demon Clowney, who has had a long and winding road to Columbia. He originally signed with Ole Miss out of the class of 2020 and spent 3 seasons with the program, totaling 10 tackles and 3 tackles for a loss.

In 2023, he transferred to Charlotte, where he played for 2 seasons under Biff Poggi, his former high school coach in Baltimore. There, he posted 33 tackles and 4 TFLs in 2023 and 26 tackles with 6 TFLs in 2024.

Clowney then re-entered the portal, landing at Louisville. But in March, he was right back in the portal, ultimately joining the Gamecocks.

While Clowney hasn’t had quite the impact his older cousin had, he’ll close the book on his college career in Columbia as he looks to improve on a decent couple of seasons with Charlotte.
