South Carolina to hire tight ends coach with NFL experience, per report

Shane Beamer has found a replacement for Erik Kimrey, the tight ends coach who recently left the Gamecocks to return to the high school coaching ranks.
South Carolina is expected to hire Jody Wright as tight ends coach, sources told Matt Zenitz of On3 Sports. Wright, a former director of player personnel at Alabama and ex-UAB assistant, was on the New York Giants’ coaching staff the last 2 years.
Wright is a former Jacksonville State running back who spent 2 years as a student assistant at his alma mater before he joined the Mississippi State staff in 2005 as a volunteer coach. Wright spent 5 years at MSU, eventually getting elevated to director of football operations.
Wright then worked in a variety of roles at Jacksonville State and UAB between stints on Nick Saban’s staff at Alabama. Wright was first a graduate assistant and offensive analyst for the Crimson Tide between 2010 and 2012. He returned to Tuscaloosa as the director of player personnel in 2015.
Wright’s connection with Shane Beamer came by way of other colleagues.
Wright went on to stops in the pro ranks as an assistant coach for the Cleveland Browns and the Giants, and worked with former MSU assistants Freddie Kitchens and Joe Judge — both of whom also overlapped with Beamer on the Bulldogs’ staff, The State reported.
