With South Carolina entering a pivotal season under Shane Beamer, the Gamecocks are hoping a uniform update can spark a resurgent campaign.
South Carolina’s blackout has become a staple look of college football in the past decade, and the program decided to freshen up one of its trademark looks ahead of the 2026 season.

After sporting a matte black lid for the better part of the past decade, the Gamecocks will be sporting a glossy finish in Columbia this fall.
The team debuted the look with a video and photo shoot, with the appropriate caption being “Built to shine.”
Beamer & Co. are looking to produce a bounce-back campaign after falling to 4-8 last year.
The good news for Gamecock fans is that in the past four years under their head coach, the team has alternated between missing a bowl game and winning 8+ contests. Should the trend hold, LaNorris Sellers and the rest of a determined squad will be able to deliver Columbia and its residents another memorable season.
South Carolina will open its 2026 campaign when it hosts Kent State at 12:45 ET on Saturday, Sept. 5. The game is set to be broadcast by the SEC Network.
