The LSU Tigers are currently transitioning from the Brian Kelly era to the Lane Kiffin era, and as with every coaching change, the Bayou Bengals have seen a number of players elect to hit the transfer portal following the switch in regimes.

A number of contributors have already declared their intentions to search for greener pastures once the January portal window begins, and the latest entry might just be the most significant.

According to CBS Sports college football insider Matt Zenitz, sophomore safety Dashawn Spears’ representation has informed the Tigers that he intends to enter his name into the transfer portal once it is officially open.

A highly coveted 4-star recruit in the 2024 cycle, Spears committed to LSU over several other big-time programs like Florida, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Baylor. He made an immediate impact for the Tigers in 2024 and followed a stellar freshman performance with an even better one in 2025.

Spears started all 13 games for the Bayou Bengals this season, racking up 29 total tackles and 2 interceptions as a key part of an LSU secondary that led the entire SEC in takeaways.

Now he’s taking his talents to the portal where he’s likely to receive a large amount of interest from programs across the country looking to add him to their respective defenses in 2026.
