Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns held on against Kentucky this past weekend for a 16-13 victory in overtime. Texas was out-gained 395 to 179 in total yards, while rushing the ball 28 times for just 37 yards.

The offense was expected to be elite with Arch Manning as the quarterback, but that hasn’t been the case in 2025.

Sarkisian is one of a few head coaches with play-calling duties. Despite the struggles this year, Sarkisian will not be re-assigning those responsibilities to someone else on the Texas staff.

“That’s why I got hired,” Sarkisian said when asked if he would consider giving up the play-calling duties. “I was a really good offensive coordinator.

“I believe in what we are able to do. Every year we have to continue to evolve … If that’s one of your strengths, I’m always going to tap into the strength that I have. And I think being a play-caller on offense is one of my strengths. Some may disagree, that’s OK.”

In today’s college football, there are many things that a head coach has to take deal with. Being in charge of the play-calling is just another one of those things, and Sarkisian made it perfectly clear that he will not be making a change there any time soon.

Sarkisian and the Longhorns will face Mississippi State on Saturday.
