Steve Sarkisian was asked about the status of Ryan Wingo, after the Texas wide receiver had to leave the game after sustaining an apparent hand injury.

“In an emergency, emergency, I think he could have gone in,” Sarkisian said — per On Texas Football’s CJ Vogel — after the Longhorns’ 34-31 win over Vanderbilt improved them to 7-2 on the season.

Wingo exited in the first quarter after his injury and didn’t play the entire second half. He was involved in the Longhorns’ first play from scrimmage, a 75-yard screen pass that went for a touchdown. Wingo later had a second catch for 14 yards.

Per Steve Sarkisian, however, Wingo shouldn’t be on the shelf for long. That’s good news for the Longhorns, who have now won their last 4 games after a 3-2 start to the season.

For the season, Wingo has 31 catches for 593 yards and 5 touchdowns. Through 9 games, he is Texas’s leading receiver.

The Longhorns, who are now 4-1 in the SEC, don’t play again until Nov. 15, giving Wingo an extra week to recover from what appears to be a relatively minor injury. Texas visits Georgia before returning home to face Arkansas and Texas A&M.
