Steve Sarkisian says Ohio State should be ‘rewarded’ by CFP committee for playing at Texas

Steve Sarkisian appears to feel, to this day, that his Texas Longhorns were left out of the 2025 College Football Playoff because of their loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes. It’d be really easy for him to hope the same fate befalls the Buckeyes this year, but that’s not his aspiration.
Speaking after the Longhorns’ comeback victory, Texas’ coach wants Ohio State to be “rewarded” for traveling to battle his team.
“I hope Ohio State does not get punished for that game… it’s 24-23, they lose [on] us scoring with 25 seconds to go in the game,” Sarkisian said. “I hope, if they end up being a 9-3 team, the committee can appreciate the fact that they came to Austin, Texas, in September, when it was 100 degrees, and played us in that environment… quite frankly, Ohio State should be rewarded for playing in this game against us… time will tell.”
Sarkisian reiterated that Texas “was not rewarded” for playing at Ohio State in 2025. Had the Longhorns not lost to the 4-8 Florida Gators, though, they almost assuredly would have reached the CFP. If Ohio State avoids losses to the weaker schools on its schedule, a 9-3 record should get the Buckeyes into the bracket.
