Billy Napier has caught a lot of flack in the midst of some of Florida’s woes since he’s been the head coach there. But Gators legend Steve Spurrier sees plenty of positive takeaways from Napier’s play-calling in the 41-39 win over South Carolina.

โ€œI think Coach Napier called the best game since heโ€™s been here,โ€ Spurrier said on WRUF this week, per On3’s Zach Abolverdi. โ€œAnd he had to. He had to because the other team was scoring a bunch of points. So, maybe that attitude may, โ€˜Well, letโ€™s try that again.โ€™ Letโ€™s try to score 40 or 50.

โ€œAnd if you donโ€™t score 50, maybe youโ€™ll score 35. That was always my philosophy. If we try to score 50 every week and we come a little short, thatโ€™s still pretty good.โ€

The win was much needed for the Gators in many aspects, snapping a 5-game losing streak on the road.

โ€œBiggest win for coach Billy Napier since heโ€™s been here in 2 years. I think everybody agrees to that,โ€ Spurrier said. โ€œBut what was really neat about it is that we had to score two touchdowns in the last five minutes or so. And even though our defense struggled, we got two stops at the end of the game and thatโ€™s all we needed to win the game.โ€

The Gators will look to keep the momentum moving in a positive direction as they face No. 1 Georgia on Oct. 28.
