Tate Sandell and Oklahoma were facing a season-defining moment against Texas, and the Lou Groza Award-winning kicker delivered with a 47-yard kick as time expired to give the Sooners the 27-24 upset win against the No. 1 Longhorns.

After the game, there was pure pandemonium for the Sooners, as a third loss on the season would have all but ended any hopes of making it to the College Football Playoff. Sandell celebrated by planting the Oklahoma flag, but he also wanted to put on the Golden Hat. He got his wish.

Like the Sooners, Sandell wasn’t having a season up to his standard. Entering the game, he had already missed three field goals, which is as many as he missed all of last season. However, when his team needed him in the Red River Rivalry, he showed why he is one of the best kickers in the country.

For at least a week, the Sooners still have everything in front of them when it comes to playing in meaningful games in November. Sandell and his teammates figure to enjoy this win on Saturday night, but a home game against Kentucky is looming in Week 7.
