Going into the 2025 season, Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel is being rewarding with a contract extension through January 2030, the school announced. Heupel has guided Tennessee to its winningest 3-year run in over 2 decades as the Vols are coming off their first trip to the College Football Playoff.

Heupel is grateful for the vote of confidence by Tennessee’s athletic department.

I greatly appreciate the support of Danny White, President Boyd and Chancellor Plowman,” Heupel said. “During an era of change in our sport, their leadership and commitment to helping us build a championship football program is strong.

Tennessee suffered through 4 straight losing seasons prior to Heupel’s arrival. The Vols have no losing seasons during Heupel’s 4 years at the helm.

We took over a program in 2021 during a turbulent time. We quickly built a resilient, player-driven culture and have enjoyed great success on and off the field, but there is still much left to do,” Heupel said. “I am excited about the future of Tennessee Football, and I can’t wait to run through the T once again with Vol Nation proudly supporting us.

No. 24 Tennessee enters Year 5 of the Heupel era with a neutral site matchup vs. Syracuse on Aug. 30 (12 p.m. ET/ABC) from Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
