Tennessee has an offense that can score with nearly any team in the country. However, in the team’s two losses this year, the Volunteers have allowed 81 points to Georgia and Auburn.
The Volunteers were in action on Saturday night against Kentucky team that has struggled on offense all year long. They did get a pick-6 from Edrees Farooq, but the Wildcats have been able to move the ball consistently on the defense. To end the first half, the Wildcats went on a 16-play, 96-yard drive that took 8:35 and was capped off by a Cutter Boley touchdown pass to J.J. Hester
Fans are at a breaking point with defensive coordinator Tim Banks, and they are letting him have it on social media.
Entering Saturday night, the Wildcats had scored 14 points or fewer in three consecutive SEC games. Banks has been the defensive coordinator and safeties coach in Knoxville since 2021, and fans are calling for his time to be up.
The Volunteers still have a legitimate shot to make it to the College Football Playoff, but the defense is going to need to start playing better if they are going to be able to beat teams like Oklahoma and Vanderbilt down the stretch.
Tennessee took a 35-21 lead over Kentucky into the halftime break.
