Tennessee has major strides to make in 2026 after a disappointing 2025 season under Josh Heupel, but it continued to score recruiting victories for the 2027 season on Saturday afternoon.
That’s because 3-star safety Carter Jamison announced that he had committed to Tennessee for the 2027 season. Not only are the Volunteers getting a potentially significant piece for their secondary, Jamison is a Georgia product from Creekside High School in Fairburn, so prying him out of the rival SEC state of Georgia is a double whammy.
Jamison only visited the Tennessee campus for the first time last month, and he was going to head back to Knoxville to make an official visit during the weekend of June 19. But that visit apparently won’t be necessary because he’s already decided that Tennessee is the place for him in 2027. Jamison had offers from over 15 other schools, but he’ll be bringing his versatility to Knoxville, with Jamison being able to play the nickel position in addition to his normal safety spot.
According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Jamison is rated as the 1,038th-best product overall in the Class of 2027. Jamison is currently the No. 105 safety in the class and the 120th-best player from the state of Georgia, according to those 247Sports Composite rankings.
The 5-foot-10, 180-pounder is Tennessee’s 7th commitment in its 2027 recruiting class, which is currently ranked 28th in the country by the 247Sports Composite rankings. Jamison is the Vols’ second projected defensive back in the 2027 class.
Jamison was scheduled to visit Wake Forest and South Florida for official visits, so Tennessee had some real competition in trying to get him. But those visits apparently won’t be happening as Jamison has settled on his decision to head to Knoxville in 2027.
Jamison can’t affect the Volunteers until the 2027 season, but the 2026 Vols will be gunning for an SEC title, as they always are. Here is what the Kalshi market is currently saying about Tennessee and other SEC teams’ odds to be the last team standing with that championship trophy in December:
