Tennessee linebackers don ‘Inge built’ shirts during Vol Walk
Tennessee’s linebackers were aiming to play their best game yet this season on Saturday afternoon against SEC rival Auburn.
But before the Week 5 matchup at Neyland Stadium that was set to begin at 3:30 p.m. ET (ESPN), those Volunteer linebackers already showed they were winners. During Vol Walk, the linebackers who play hard for Tennessee LB coach William Inge wore “Inge built” T-shirts in solidarity for their ill coach.
Tennessee announced back on Sept. 24 that Inge had been hospitalized recently for what the football program described as a “personal medical issue.”
The next day, the program released a statement from Inge, with the 52-year-old coach saying: “I am fighting this illness.”
“I appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers,” Inge wrote in his statement to everyone who has been supporting his fight. “I am resting comfortably. I am fighting this illness just like our team fights on Saturdays on the field. I look forward to supporting our team and wish them well tomorrow. GBO.”
Inge has become a crucial part of Tennessee’s coaching staff under Josh Heupel and is now in his third season on the staff in Knoxville.
He means the world to his program and his players, and those emotions were channeled on Saturday afternoon before the Auburn matchup. Here is how those Vols linebackers looked in their “Inge built” shirts that Inge surely would’ve been proud of:
