No. 15 Tennessee will host No. 6 Georgia this week for a top-15 showdown, and the Volunteers are bringing out “Checker Neyland” for the game.

The iconic checkered look for Tennessee’s home stadium started in 2014. Since then, Tennessee has used the look eight different times for big-time matchups. However, Tennessee hasn’t fared extremely well while using this look. Tennessee’s record in “Checker Neyland” sits at 4-4, and a win against Georgia would give the Vols an above .500 record for the first time with this look.

More recently, Tennessee is 3-1 in their last 4 “Checker Neyland” games. Last year, Tennessee beat Florida, 23-17, using this look. Their last loss using “Checker Neyland” came in 2021 against Ole Miss when Tennessee lost 31-26.

This will be the first test for both teams, who did not play a ranked opponent in their first two weeks. Georgia’s offense, which struggled against Austin Peay in its latest matchup, will have to keep up with the high-powered offense of Tennessee. Quarterback Joey Aguilar has yet to throw for under 240 yards in his two career games with Tennessee and will need to keep that streak going if they want to beat the Bulldogs.

Kickoff for Georgia at Tennessee is scheduled for Sept. 13 at 3:30 p.m. ET.
