A Tennessee running back who has spent two years with the program looks as if he will enter the transfer portal when it opens in January.

Peyton Lewis, who has 629 yards and 10 touchdowns during his time with the Volunteers, is portal-bound, according to On3. He was considered a 4-star recruit out of the class of 2024 by 247Sports and the No. 12 running back in the country.

Lewis enjoyed a strong start to his college career. As a true freshman, he took 64 carries for 339 yards and three touchdowns in 2024. In 2025, he recorded 70 carries for 290 yards and seven TDs. His 290 yards ranked third on the Vols’ roster, while his seven touchdowns were tied for the second-most on the team.

The Volunteers’ running game ranks in the middle of the SEC. Their 174.8 yards per game is eighth in the conference. Their 32 touchdowns, though, is third in the league. However, it appears that a member of the RB room will enter the portal, joining six other players who have reportedly made the same decision.

Tennessee, currently 8-4 on the season, faces Illinois in the Music City Bowl on Dec. 30 in Nashville.
