Tennessee safety Edrees Farooq leaves Friday practice in ambulance due to injury

Bad news out of Tennessee’s Friday morning practice. Edrees Farooq injured his leg and left the practice field via ambulance.
Tennessee communications informed media members of the news regarding Farooq. The only information provided was that Farooq was taken by ambulance to UT Medical after suffering a leg injury.

In 2025, Farooq’s sophomore season, he was a starting safety for the Vols in all 13 games. He tied for third on the team with 76 total tackles. He was second on the team with 2 interceptions, and logged 3 pass breakups. Farooq’s 4 forced fumbles were good for sixth in the FBS and second in the SEC.
New defensive coordinator Jim Knowles had high praise for Farooq coming out of spring practice.
“He did not leave, even though there was a transition and even though there were new safeties coming in,” Knowles said in a video posted May 28. “He just stayed and competed and learned and really, coming out of spring, established himself as the top safety. So I knew him a little bit through recruiting, but I was impressed with what he did on the field and how he picked things up.”
Tennessee opens the 2026 season on Sept. 5 against Furman.
