Tennessee struggled in the first half of Thursday night’s Sweet 16 game against Purdue, and it will need to have a big second half to knock off the Boilermakers.
Purdue leads Tennessee 40-28.
The Vols shot a cold 37 percent from the floor, including 4-of-13 from the free throw line. Tennessee isn’t even close to being in rhythm offensively.
Admiral Schofield and Kyle Alexander have combined for just three points. The missed dunk by Schofield (below) leading to a Purdue slam explained the first half perfectly.

Meanwhile, Purdue is shooting 55.2 percent from the floor, and Carsen Edwards already has 15 points, including 4-of-8 from three-point range. The Boilermakers have out-rebounded the Vols 21-16 and made more three pointers (7-4).
As bad as that first half was for Tennessee, the Vols are only down by 12.
