Tennessee will wear the Smokey Grey uniforms again in 2025.

The program unveiled the new version of the popular alternate threads on Thursday. The military heritage of the Volunteer State is the theme for 2025’s Smokey Greys, produced in collaboration with the Tennessee Military Department, the 134th Air Refueling Wing in East Tennessee and the Tennessee National Guard.

Highlights of this season’s Smokey Greys include a military-inspired Vols patch, the words “Volunteer spirit” inside the collar, “Volunteers” across the chest and a Davy Crockett-inspired stripe.

Tennessee debuted the Smokey Grey alternate uniforms in 2015. They went away during Jeremy Pruitt’s tenure, but returned under Josh Heupel. The “Smokey Grey series” launched with the original version in 2022, followed by the Artful Dodger version in 2023 and the “Volunteer State” version in 2024 featuring the Tri-Star state emblem.

The 2025 Smokey Greys will be worn on Nov. 15 when Tennessee hosts New Mexico in the annual Salute to Service game. It is also the program’s homecoming game for the season.
