Tennessee’s sudden rise back into national prominence in college football has come faster than almost anyone expected, from the chancellor to Tennessee’s president, athletics director and fans.

The Associated Press recently interviewed Donde Plowman, the chancellor, Danny White, the AD, President Randy Boyd and fan Adam Mullins about the turnaround.

“It’s been a magical 21 months,” Plowman said.

Mullins credits the coaching staff, and still takes the progress game by game. White said coach Josh Heupel is about the most competitive person he knows, and Heupel is excited to build the program.

“Our fans are seeing that in some of the decisions he makes during the game,” White said.

Boyd admitted that Tennessee figured it could compete with the top teams, but since the Alabama win, the Vols proved they could beat anyone on any given day.”
