Tennessee’s comeback falls short at North Carolina as Dalton Knecht scores 37, leaves in final minutes due to injury

Tennessee trailed for over 39 minutes by as many as 24 points, but the Volunteers never gave up and took North Carolina down to the wire. The No. 10 Volunteers ultimately fell to the No. 17 Tar Heels 100-92 in Chapel Hill.
UNC had a 61-39 advantage at the half and extended that lead to 76-52, but Rick Barnes’ squad kept fighting. The Vols outscored Carolina 53-39 in the 2nd half as the Tar Heels did not score a field goal over the final 6:56 of play, going 0-of-8.
As it tried to pull off a comeback for the ages, UT lost its top scorer. Dalton Knecht had 37 points,6 rebounds and 7 assists logging 37 minutes. He had to sub out at the 1:39 mark after injuring his ankle, when he was just 1 point shy of becoming the record holder for most points scored by a visiting player at the Dean Smith Center.

UT came up empty in the 3-game gauntlet of Purdue, Kansas and UNC. The Vols will look to get back on track next week at home against George Mason.
