It’s been known since the summer that Texas A&M has one of the toughest schedules in the country. However, now it’s historic thanks to the AP Top 25.

Ralph D. Russo of the Associated Press reported that Texas A&M will be the first team to face the No. 1 team in the AP poll three times in a season. Not just regular season. It had never been done including the postseason.

The Aggies trip to Baton Rouge and Tiger Stadium will take on a revenge factor from No. 1 LSU as the Tigers are looking to return the favor after the teams’ seven-overtime game last season in which Texas A&M won.

Coach Jimbo Fisher has largely embraced the schedule since the offseason.

“When you’re playing people like we’re playing and have the schedule we have, you’ll have plenty of opportunities,” Fisher said, according to the AP. “Is it tough? Is it challenging? Yes. I’m not saying it just because, hey, that’s our schedule, but we’ve got a great opportunity where we’re at while we’re building this program.”

A&M’s losses this season have come against Georgia, Alabama, Auburn and Clemson, who at the time of the meeting were ranked either No. 1, No. 4 or No. 8.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to show the development we’ve made, the consistency in which we can play with and hopefully getting over the hump, like we did at the end of the year in those big games and become relevant to the national championship hunt,” Fisher said.

The Aggies have opened as a 15-point underdog against LSU in a game set to kick off at 6 p.m. local time on Saturday on ESPN.
