Texas A&M made its first-ever College Football Playoff appearance in 2025. In 2026, the Aggies have looked far from a Playoff team.
Saturday’s 27-6 loss to Mizzou dropped A&M to 1-3 in the SEC and 3-3 overall. The Aggies managed just 216 yards of total offense. To put it into perspective, Mizzou RB Jamal Roberts (222 yards rushing) outgained the Aggies by himself. Texas A&M‘s ground game, which totaled 29 yards on 23 carries, was non-existent.
It’s been a massive step back for Mike Elko‘s team after being ranked No. 8 in the preseason AP poll. What’s more, the Aggies still have two Top 10 teams, No. 6 Alabama and No. 7 Texas, on their remaining schedule. Offensively, they rank third-last in the SEC in total yards, second-from-last in passing, and fifth-last in points per game (27.5). In 2025, they were top six in those categories.
That puts Holmon Wiggins, who took over as sole offensive coordinator after Collin Klein was named Kansas State’s head coach, under significant pressure.
“We are not connecting as a team. It’s a team thing. I don’t feel like it’s no one particular person’s fault of why we’re having struggles. So I feel like he’s handling it well,” running back Jamarion Morrow said on Tuesday, per KBTX-TV’s Nick Kuzma. “(We’re) all taking accountability for the things that we’re not doing right. And he’s (taken) accountability as well. So I feel like we’re just trying to get better every day.”
The Aggies get a needed reprieve from SEC play as they host The Citadel in Week 7. After that, though, is a trip to Alabama in Week 8.
