Texas A&M recruiting is heating up. The Aggies are up to 17 verbal commitments in their 2027 recruiting class, which ranks No. 1 on the 247Sports Composite.
Mike Elko‘s staff picked up a pair of notable commitments recently. Aston Whiteside got things started with a Monday night announcement that he plans to stay in his home state and play for Texas A&M.

Out of Burleston (Texas) Centennial High School, Whiteside is listed as measuring 6-2 and 205 pounds. On the Composite, he’s rated 3-stars, the No. 43 linebacker, No. 69 recruit in Texas and No. 538 prospect nationally.
Whiteside told Hayes Fawcett of Rivals that he chose Texas A&M over Miami, Texas Tech and Kentucky. Former A&M assistant Jay Bateman is now on staff at UK.
Texas A&M followed up the Whiteside news with a bigger bang on Tuesday. Elko’s staff went into the Sunshine State and beat out Florida, Alabama and South Carolina for blue-chip edge Frederick Ards III.
Out of Orlando (Florida) Jones High School, Ards is listed at 6-4 and 226. On the Composite, he’s the No. 7 prospect in Florida, No. 9 edge defender and No. 68 player overall in the Class of 2027.
