After routing Texas State to open the season, Texas is now the No. 1 team in ESPN’s weekly FPI rankings, passing Ohio State.
The Longhorns made it look easy against the Bobcats, racing out to a 28-0 second-quarter lead and adding on 31 more points in the second half. Arch Manning threw for 305 yards and four touchdowns before being lifted in favor of Karle Lacey.
That sets up a Week 2 showdown against the No. 2 team in the FPI, Ohio State. The Buckeyes raced past Ball State 56-3 ahead of a contest against the Longhorns in Austin.
Texas is one of five SEC teams in the Top 10 of the FPI. Georgia stayed put after cruising past Tennessee State. LSU, after a rout of Clemson to open the Lane Kiffin era, moved up two spots to No. 7. Alabama slipped a spot to No. 9 despite beating East Carolina. Texas A&M, which shut out Missouri State 50-0, moved from No. 11 to No. 10.

Oklahoma (11th), Ole Miss (15th), South Carolina (16th), Florida (17th), and Tennessee (18th) were the other SEC teams in the top 25, with South Carolina moving up seven spots after an impressive defeat of Kent State.
