Texas has tabbed a key in-state linebacker from the class of 2027, as 3-star prospect Cade Haug announced on social media that he’s committing to the Longhorns.

Haug is proud to be staying in the Lone Star State for the start of his college career.

“Texas is the 1% of the 1% and I’m blessed to have an opportunity to go play for the best players and coaches in the nation,” Haug said via Inside Texas.

The 6-foot-1, 220-pound Haug also had offers from programs such as Kansas State, Nebraska, Pitt and SMU. Haug is regarded by the 247Sports Composite as the nation’s No. 36 linebacker and the No. 63 recruit from Texas.

Haug amassed108 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, and three sacks in 2025 according to MaxPreps. Haug also had a pair of rushing touchdowns for Kingwood.

Texas now has five commits for the class of 2027. The other four are New Orleans (La.) Brother Martin wide receiver Easton Royal, Mansfield (Texas) Summit edge Cameron Hall, Ramsey (N.J.) Don Bosco Prep tight end JT Geraci, and Manvel (Texas) safety Greedy James.

Texas went 10-3 this season, capped off with a 41-27 victory vs. Michigan in the Citrus Bowl. Texas kicks off the 2026 season with a home game vs. Texas State on Sept. 5.
