The Texas Longhorns are back in the win column.
It wasn’t easy, but Steve Sarkisian‘s bunch defeated Ole Miss 34-27 on Saturday night in Austin. The Longhorns took a 24-3 lead into the break, but Ole Miss battled back to tie the game at 24-24 in the 4th quarter.
However, Texas’s defense running game took over from that point onward. UT scored 10 points to take a 34-24 lead, which proved to be enough despite a successful onside kick from the Rebels in the game’s final minutes.
The Rebels made it as far as the 29-yard line, but were unable to find the end zone for a game-tying touchdown.
Arch Manning had an up-and-down evening. He threw for a touchdown and ran for 2 more, including the game-winner. However, he also conceded a scoop-and-score touchdown in the second half and threw a pair of interceptions.
Texas running back Raleek Brown was the star of the show offensively. Brown rushed for 118 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the night. The Longhorns combined to rush for 121 yards on 12 carries in the 4th quarter alone.
The UT defense also helped keep Ole Miss superstar Trinidad Chambliss in check all night long. Chambliss finished with 250 passing yards and 3 interceptions on 52 attempts, making it one of the worst games of his college career.
Texas will host Mississippi State next weekend.
