Texas running back Quintrevion Wisner will not play Saturday when the seventh-ranked Longhorns (0-1) host San Jose State (0-1).

Wisner was seen in street clothes during the team’s pregame warm-ups. Horns247’s Chip Brown reported prior to the game that Wisner is dealing with a “minor” injury and Texas is holding him out of the game for precautionary reasons.

Wisner was listed as the co-RB1 on the Longhorns’ official depth chart for the game. In his absence, sophomore tailback CJ Baxter will likely carry a larger load.

Texas also has sophomore runner Jerrick Gibson and redshirt freshman Christian Clark to turn to in the backfield. Without Wisner, both players should see run during Saturday’s game against the Spartans.

Wisner led the team in rushing last season with 1,064 yards and 5 scores on 226 carries. He had 16 rushing attempts for 80 yards in the season-opening loss to Ohio State last Saturday. Baxter ran 10 times for 40 yards while also catching 5 passes for 25 yards.

Texas will also be without defensive tackle Alex January for the Week 2 matchup.

The Longhorns closed as a 37.5-point favorite over the Spartans at BetMGM. Kickoff is set for noon ET on ABC.
