Texas to hire West Virginia’s Chad Scott as new RB coach, per report

Texas is looking to build off last season’s run to the College Football Playoff semifinals before losing to eventual national champion, Ohio State. With that success, that means coaches will leave for the next opportunity, and teams are having to replace coaches every year.
Former running backs coach Tashard Choice left Texas a couple of weeks ago to become the RB coach for the Detroit Lions, where he will work with NFL stars David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs.
The Longhorns didn’t wait a long time to make their move, as it is being reported that former West Virginia coach Chad Scott will be the new coach.
Scott was the OC the past 2 years at West Virginia, and was retained by Rich Rodriguez to remain on the staff. He played a huge role in the development of running back CJ Donaldson, who rushed for 2,058 yards and 30 touchdowns during his career.
West Virginia was top 10 in rushing the ball the last 2 seasons, and Scott inherits an extremely talented running back room in Austin led by Quintrevion Wilson (1,064 yards and 5 touchdowns) and Jaydon Blue (730 yards and 8 touchdowns). The Longhorns also get CJ Baxter back after missing 2024 due to injury.
