This time last year, Lane Kiffin was beloved by the Ole Miss Rebels. Today, he’s back in town after executing a tremendous heel-turn on the people in Oxford.
It’d be one thing if Kiffin had just left the Rebels’ football program; nothing lasts forever. But it’s where he went, and how soon he went there. The LSU Tigers are (were?) Ole Miss’ second-biggest rival. And Kiffin elected to shed his Rebel colors for a purple-and-yellow striped coat prior to what would have been his first College Football Playoff run.
Ole Miss’ fanbase hasn’t been shy about expressing its disdain for Kiffin since his departure. On Saturday morning, it got the chance to show off its creativity with College GameDay signs. Unsurprisingly, there were some doozies.
Most of the signs bashed Kiffin for a lack of loyalty. For better or worse, that has never been Kiffin’s strength. Ole Miss represents his longest coaching tenure (six years). Beyond that, he spent four seasons with the USC Trojans, three at Florida Atlantic and one year with Tennessee.
Including tonight’s game, Kiffin is just three contests into his LSU career. At this moment, Tiger fans hope his tenure in Baton Rouge lasts longer than the one in Oxford, but that could change. The Tigers and Rebels kick off tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET (ABC).
