Auburn is looking to claim some early momentum for 2025 as it pays a visit to Baylor on Friday in the season opener for both teams.
It’s a rare matchup between the two programs. Their first meeting was in the Gator Bowl in 1954, a 33-13 Auburn win. Baylor then won a low-scoring 14-8 contest at Jordan-Hare Stadium in 1965. The Tigers and Bears next met in 1975 in Waco, a 10-10 tie, before the Bears won 15-14 on the Plains the following year.
Fast forward to Friday in Waco, and the fifth all-time matchup between the schools. With it being a holiday weekend, that gave Auburn fans plenty of reason to make the trip to McLane Stadium and support their team.
Based on some posts on social media, it sounds like quite a few of them made the trip:
Tigers fans will be looking to play off the energy of their fans in Friday’s game. With Auburn playing to 6-7 and 5-7 records in Hugh Freeze’s first 2 seasons, this certainly could be a make-or-break year for him as the Tigers hope to keep from falling further behind the rest of the SEC.
