TJ Finley talks competition in crowded Auburn QB room this spring

TJ Finley is in the middle of one of the more crowded quarterback rooms in the SEC this spring, and the Auburn signal caller.
Finley spoke with Chris Gordy on the “Locked on SEC Podcast” and referenced the likes of Zach Calzada, Dematrius Davis, Robby Ashford and Holden Geriner competing for the starting QB job.
“It’s going to be competition everywhere,” Finley said. “And competition brings the best out of everybody, and that’s what a lot of people don’t understand about football. Even in the work area, say you’re in the accounting area, you might have a boss that brings in another accountant just to push you and make you better. You should want that. That’s how I approach the football business. A guy could be just as good as you, or even better than you, but the guy that has the best day, each day, consistently, is going to have the job.”
Finley said it helps him stay on his “Ps and Qs,” but he also feels as if he has the upper hand. Finley said that’s because he’s been at Auburn the longest, but also because Finley said he knows the system like the back of his hand. Finley said he also knows his other teammates’ strengths and weaknesses.
“It’s all about going in every day and proving my point and working my behind off,” Finley said.
