Todd Golden will coach the Florida Gators in 2026-27, he told reporters Wednesday morning.
The Florida basketball head coach cleared the air regarding recent speculation that he would pursue a job in the NBA. A report from earlier this week mentioned that Golden is a potential person of interest for the Golden State Warriors if they decide to move on from Steve Kerr this offseason.
With his affirmation that he will stay with the Gators next season, Golden officially confirms news that was indirectly confirmed yesterday when star forward Thomas Haugh announced that he will return for another season in Gainesville alongside Alex Condon.
Golden is one of the best coaches in college basketball and, partially because of that, Florida’s hype heading into next season is going to be absolutely off the charts.
For good reason. Condon and Haugh’s return already solidifies one of the best frontcourts in America, and Rueben Chinyelu could still decide to return to school, too. Chinyelu, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year in college basketball, entered the NBA Draft while maintaining his college eligibility earlier this week. He’ll test the waters with the intention of returning to Florida if his numbers aren’t quite where he’d like.
That’s not all, though. Guards Boogie Fland and Urban Klavzar are both expected to be back, and Denzel Aberdeen will make his return to Gainesville after taking a lone year to play at Kentucky. CJ Ingram and Isaiah Brown will return as well, adding some much-needed depth and potential for a jump in production.
Preseason No. 1 shouldn’t even be a debate at this point, folks.
