Georgia RB Todd Gurley suspended indefinitely for alleged NCAA violation

The Georgia Bulldogs’ SEC East hopes took a significant blow Thursday afternoon.
Gurley was suspended by the Georgia Athletic Association due to an ongoing investigation into an alleged violation of NCAA rules.
“I’m obviously very disappointed,” Georgia head coach Mark Richt said in a statement on the athletic department’s website. “The important thing for our team is to turn all our attention toward preparation for Missouri.”
The announcement comes a day after Richt cancelled all player interviews.
Fox Sports 1’s Bruce Feldman reported via Twitter that the investigation likely surrounds impermissible benefits.

Seth Emerson of the Macon Telegraph reports a source confirms the investigation surrounds whether Gurley received money in exchange for his autograph or the use of his likeness.

Feldman joined Fox Sports 1’s “America’s Pregame” on Thursday and said that the investigation is still in the early stages.
“[Gurley’s playing career] is definitely on hold now. I was told this could take a while,” Feldman said. “Remember, even though Johnny Manziel was only suspended for a half game, the investigation went on throughout August, and I think there’s a lot of documentation that they’re going to have to look at.”
“This is still in its early stages, from what I’m hearing, so we’re waiting for a lot more information to come out.”
