Former Texas Longhorns head coach Tom Herman is reportedly headed to Tallahassee to join Florida State’s staff under head coach Mike Norvell, according to a report from Warchant.com on Monday.

Herman’s exact role with the Seminoles has not yet been specified, but his experience is certainly a great asset for Florida State. In addition to being Texas’ head coach from 2017-2020, Herman led the Houston Cougars and Florida Atlantic Owls.

As far as assistant gigs are concerned, Herman has been all over the country across both the collegiate and professional ranks. He started coaching wide receivers as Texas Lutheran in 1998 before taking a graduate assistant position at Texas.

From there, Herman made stops at Sam Houston State, Rice, Iowa State and Ohio State before landing his first head coaching job with Houston in 2015. Herman spent 2 seasons in Houston before moving north to Austin.

Herman was far from a complete disaster for Texas. He did, however, fail to live up to the Longhorns’ lofty expectations.

Herman finished his second season in Austin with a 10-4 record, culminating in a Sugar Bowl victory over Georgia. That’s a good start, but after finishing 2019 8-5 and 7-3 in 2020, AD Chris Del Conte made the decision to move on, hiring Steve Sarkisian.
