There have been plenty of Georgia fans flying to Indianapolis in recent days, but only one flight had a crew member from the 1980 national championship team.

Capt. Tom Lewis, as he introduced himself, fired up a plane full of Georgia fans this weekend with a Go Dawgs to start his introduction of the rest of the flight crew, the UGA Alumni Instagram account shared.

“It’s our pleasure to take you guys up to Indy to watch the Dawgs beat the Tide,” he said. “Hope you all have a nice trip, it’s a short one, only an hour and 5 minutes, and I hope you brought your coats, it’s clear skies 18 degrees right now up in Indy. We really appreciate y’all coming with us. We’ll do everything we can to make you have a good time up there on the way on this short trip and bring us back a championship.”

He then shared a personal story.

“This is kind of a special flight for me, 41 years ago I was known as Tommy Lewis and I was a member of the 1980 national championship football team,” he said to a round of applause and cheers.
