Missouri basketball center Trent Burns announced on Thursday that he will be back with the Tigers in 2026-27.

While his averages were relatively low this season — Burns scored just 2 points per game with 2 rebounds per game through 22 appearances this season — Burns is an intriguing player for the Tigers moving forward. The Cypress, Texas native dealt with a foot injury that hampered the first half of his freshman season, but saw his minutes greatly increase starting around mid-February.

Burns averaged around 15 minutes per game starting February 18 vs. Vanderbilt. He put together a few solid performances, including an 8-point, 5-rebound outing against Mississippi State across 19 minutes of action.

The Tigers have already put a few pieces in place for next season. Trent Pierce announced earlier this week that he will be returning, while point guard Anthony Robinson and guard Sebastian Mack announced they will be entering the transfer portal. Obviously, more announcements and roster movement is still to come.

Missouri is heading into a pivotal offseason for head coach Dennis Gates, who will be entering Year 5 with just one NCAA Tournament win to his name. The Tigers have put together some solid teams under Gates, but haven’t quite been able to break through to the upper echelon of the conference.
