Trinidad Chambliss exits Playoff game vs. Tulane late in first half with apparent injury

Ole Miss jumped out to a 17-3 lead at halftime Saturday against Tulane in the first round of the College Football Playoff but went into the break without the services of quarterback Trinidad Chambliss.
Chambliss absorbed an injury on a scramble late in the 2nd quarter against the Green Wave, weaving for 11 yards before Chris Rogers took him to the Vaught-Hemingway Stadium turf. Rogers appeared to inadvertently grasp Chambliss’ face mask as they collided and was not flagged on the play.
Chambliss then limped off the field and did not return before the break.
Ole Miss turned to Austin Simmons, who began the 2025 season as the Rebels’ starter before absorbing an ankle injury Sept. 6 at Kentucky. The sophomore promptly dotted Deuce Alexander on a 15-yard completion and then connected with Dae’Quan Wright on a 10-yard pass to the Tulane 7. But Simmons was then strip-sacked by Tulane’s Harvey Dyson III – with the fumble recovered by Tulane’s Eliyt Tu Nairne.
Chambliss didn’t seem worse for wear in the final moments of the half, as he was seen laughing with teammates on the sideline. Chambliss went 13-of-16 for 167 yards passing and added 8 yards on 3 carries.
Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy also apparently dinged his shoulder on Ole Miss’ final possession of the first half and went to the medical tent.
