Trinidad Chambliss, Keelon Russell headline ESPN’s Week 3 Heisman breakdown

We’re still early in the 2026 college football season, but many quarterbacks are in the early running for the Heisman Trophy due to tremendous starts. A good number of them, including some frontrunners, hail from the SEC.
Early Tuesday morning, ESPN’s Bill Connelly released his Week 3 Heisman breakdown. He labeled Ole Miss Rebels quarterback Trinidad Chambliss as his “Week 3 Heisman Winner” after his strong showing against the LSU Tigers.
Here’s some of Connelly’s analysis:
The September favorite almost never actually wins the award… but if Ole Miss makes another run to the CFP, Chambliss could finish with 4,000-plus passing yards and 30-plus TDs. While he seems to be more selective about his rushing… he’s still more than capable of moving the chains when it counts… he’ll be the reason Ole Miss makes another CFP run if it happens.
Alabama Crimson Tide passer Keelon Russell earned the second spot in Connelly’s Week 3 rankings following the best game of his young career vs. the Florida State Seminoles.

After overcoming early mistakes to play well against Kentucky the week before, Russell was tasked with overcoming his defense’s mistakes Saturday. After settling for a couple of early field goals, Russell threw three touchdown passes in just 134 seconds to turn a 21-6 deficit into a 26-21 halftime lead… dynamite stuff.
Mississippi State signal-caller Kamario Taylor came in at No. 9 on Connelly’s list, giving him an appearance each week so far this year. All three quarterbacks hope to replicate their accomplishments vs. SEC foes in Week 4.
