A chaotic Saturday of action across the college football landscape shook up what was previously believed about a plethora of teams, and the SEC was at the center of the discussions.
From Dallas to Tuscaloosa to Lexington, the league’s top teams were in action with the nation watching, and a trio of Top 10 squads from the SEC suffered defeats.
Top-ranked Texas fell 27-24 in the Red River Rivalry Game, then-No. 6 Alabama dropped a nail-biter against now-top-ranked Georgia and No. 10 LSU was stunned by previously unranked Kentucky in overtime.
According to ESPN Insights, this was just the third time in AP Poll history that three SEC programs ranked within the Top 10 lost on the same day.
One of the other instances occurred in 2024, when No. 1 Alabama (@ Vanderbilt), No. 4 Tennessee (@ Arkansas) and No. 9 Missouri (@ Texas A&M) all fell.
Back in 2006, No. 2 Auburn (vs. Arkansas), No. 9 LSU (@ Florida) and No. 10 Georgia (vs. Tennessee) also all lost on the same day.
In an odd coincidence, all three of these instances also occurred around the same time of the calendar year (Oct. 10, 2026 | Oct. 5, 2024 | Oct. 7, 2006).
And of course, this occurrence doesn’t even mention Florida being stunned by South Carolina at home or Texas A&M falling to 3-3 on the season, realities that would have been almost unthinkable just a few weeks ago.
