Ty Simpson is looking to etch his name into the history of great SEC quarterbacks this fall, and he hopes to take after his football role model in doing so.
As Bama 247’s Mike Rodak reported, Simpson tabbed Florida legend Tim Tebow as his idol growing up, citing the former Gator’s emotions and faith as reasons for looking up to him. And Simpson literally did, because he even admitted to having a Tebow ‘Fathead’ on his wall as a kid.
“I loved the way that he played, how passionate he was and how outspoken he was about his faith,” Simpson said. “I thought that was really cool.”
Simpson went on to go into further detail about his strong religious belief as well as the impact his father Jason–who is the current head coach at UT-Martin–had on him.
“It’s something that I want to be, now that I’m on this platform now. I want people to know, hey, I’m a Christian first and then I’m a football player,” Simpson said. “And growing up, him [Jason] being a coach is what I want to be one day. The way that I saw him in his program every day, see him talk to his guys about being a Christian — just giving the Word to other guys has been really cool to me.”
Simpson takes over as the Crimson Tide’s starting quarterback after biding his time behind Bryce Young and Jalen Milroe over the past three seasons. The former 5-star, according to 247 Sports, has completed 58% of his passes for 381 yards in his Alabama career thus far.
