Ty Simpson reflects on best advice he’s received on becoming an NFL QB

Ty Simpson only started 15 college games before being selected in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, but like many draftees, he hasn’t been shy about seeking out advice on how to be a pro quarterback.
“You can’t go broke taking a profit. It’s something that you have to learn, it’s something I’ve talked to many quarterbacks about, and many coaches about,” Simpson told reporters in Pittsburgh after being selected by the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday night via the No. 13 overall pick.
“Just keep the offense on the field. Keep the ball moving. These guys get paid to tackle me, get paid to rush the passer. I’m going to make sure I get the ball out the best I can to keep producing positive plays.”
The 6-foot-2, 208-pound Simpson likely won’t be pressed into immediate QB1 duty in Los Angeles, as the Rams have reigning NFL Most Valuable Player and future Hall of Famer Matthew Stafford under center for 2026.
The Rams hope that Simpson will further blossom sitting behind Stafford and learning under the tutelage of head coach Sean McVay in the months to come before it is the former Alabama quarterback’s turn to take over the Rams offense.
