Ty Simpson, Trinidad Chambliss headline SEC Player of the Week honorees after Week 5

Week 5 of SEC play featured several of the most highly-anticipated matchups of the season and some truly elite performances from the conference’s best players, a number of whom just picked up Player of the Week honors for their efforts.

Alabama and Ole Miss quarterbacks Ty Simpson and Trinidad Chambliss were named SEC co-Offensive Players of the Week for their efforts against Georgia and LSU, respectively.

Simpson threw for 276 yards and 2 touchdowns in the Tides’ massive road win over the Dawgs, while Chambliss went for 385 total yards and 1 touchdown in the Rebels’ home win over the Bayou Bengals.

Junior Tennessee linebacker Arion Carter picked up the nod for SEC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against Mississippi State, while Vanderbilt kicker picked up SEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors for his performance against Utah State.

Ole Miss guard Patrick Kutas and Alabama tackle Kadyn Proctor were named SEC co-Offensive Linemen of the Week, while South Carolina’s Bryan Thomas Jr. and Tennessee’s Tyre West were honored as SEC co-Defensive Linemen of the Week.

Lastly, Ole Miss punter Oscar Bird was named as the SEC Freshman of the Week for his performance against LSU, rounding out the list of players who were honored as the best of the best in the SEC for Week 5.
