The biggest news of the college football offseason dropped on Monday as Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby was granted an injunction to play college football this season, despite openly admitting to betting on games while at Indiana and Cincinnati.

The shocking news sets quite the precedent. Throughout sports history, there has been a fine line against gambling while actively playing sports — it’s a matter of honor and stands to deal a significant blow to the integrity of the game if not strictly enforced. Now, it appears that so long as teams and players can sue and select the right judge, just about anything can slide.

The situation had former LSU safety Tyrann Mathieu pondering on social media Monday afternoon. Can he play another 2 seasons of college football in Baton Rouge, despite being drafted, winning a Super Bowl and claiming 3 pro bowl appearances across an illustrious NFL career?

Who could say no?

LSU’s secondary is strong enough heading into next season, don’t you think?

Mathieu officially retired from the NFL in July of 2025 following a great 12-year career with the Cardinals, Chiefs, Texans and Saints. As mentioned earlier, Mathieu won a Super Bowl in 2019 with the Chiefs, helping beat the 49ers 31-20.
