Tywone Malone, a freshman defensive tackle and first baseman for Ole Miss, showed off his power in a big way as he crushed a 404-foot home run on Sunday to seal a 14-3 win over VCU.

After the home run, Malone spoke about it, and what it means as the 2-run bomb triggered Swayze Showers.

“It felt amazing, it wasn’t like it usually be with it packed in,” he said. “But it was good to get that one out the way, and looking forward to more. That’s I got to say.”

Malone has drawn comparisons to former slugger Frank Thomas, though Malone is listed at 310 pounds, some 60-70 pounds more than Thomas was at Auburn.

The Clarion-Ledger noted how it fits into his journey to Ole Miss.

The home run came in Malone’s second career at-bat. But even that freshness doesn’t underscore how impressive it was. Malone’s junior high school season was shortened by the COVID-19 pandemic and he didn’t play his senior season as he was rehabbing from knee surgery. In effect, Malone just hit a home run in his second major at-bat in three years.
