2 minute drill: Kentucky D-line must have coming out party

UT Martin may play two different quarterbacks today, but no matter who is under center, the Cats defensive front must give them hell.

Kentucky is deep along the defensive line, especially at defensive end with Bud Dupree, Za’Darius Smith and Jason Hatcher, among others. UK’s mammoth 375-pound freshman defensive tackle Matt Elam will also make his debut today. Elam will outweigh some Skyhawks offensive linemen by as many as 125 pounds, and could make the most of any opportunities coach Mark Stoops gives him today in his first collegiate game.

If the Cats take an early lead, look for this defensive line to pin its ears back and get after the quarterback all afternoon. If quarterback Dylan Favre is anything like his uncle, applying pressure in the backfield could force some unnecessary mistakes.

The Cats defense will be anchored by its defensive line this season, and it should have a coming out party in Lexington this afternoon.
