Vanderbilt added the 13th member of its 2027 class on Monday night, landing a commitment from 3-star quarterback Matthew Smith.
Smith hails from Santa Margarita Catholic high school in Rancho Santa Margarita, California — located about 35 miles southeast of Los Angeles. He stands at 6-foot-1 and committed to Vanderbilt over the likes of Utah and Princeton, making his commitment following an official visit to Nashville on June 5.

Smith is thus far the lowest-rated commitment of Vanderbilt’s 2027 cycle. He does not have a star rating on 247Sports, but is considered to be the No. 1765 overall prospect in the Class of 2027 according to Rivals, as well as the No. 124 QB and No. 193 player out of the Golden State.
Notably, the Commodores also have a commitment from California-based safety Dillon Davis, who hails from Bellflower, California.
As it currently stands, Vanderbilt holds the No. 46 overall class ranking for the 2027 cycle, which ranks 13th among SEC programs ahead of Mississippi State, Alabama and South Carolina.
