Vanderbilt unveils intense hype video on eve of showdown at Alabama
Vanderbilt will try for the ultimate encore on Saturday afternoon when it ventures to Tuscaloosa for a ranked showdown against Alabama.
The Commodores pulled the ultimate stunner last fall in Nashville, knocking off the then-No. 1 Crimson Tide and carrying the goalposts to the nearby Cumberland River, just for confirmation that it all really happened. It helped put this era of Vanderbilt football on the map, led by quarterback Diego Pavia, and almost exactly a year later Pavia will lead these 16th-ranked Commodores against the 10th-ranked Tide.
Vanderbilt is 5-0 for the first time since 2008, and it can really make headlines again if it pulls off another win over Alabama, this time in hostile territory. As if Commodores fans weren’t already fired up for the 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff on ABC, the Vanderbilt football social media account unveiled a 1-minute, 6-second hype video on Friday night that is sure to carry Vandy fanatics straight through the 60-minute showdown.
The video is narrated by former Commodores offensive lineman Steven Hubbard, who only played the last of his 7 college seasons at Vanderbilt. He transferred to Vandy from UTEP before the 2024 season and made his 1 season in Nashville count. Hubbard, nicknamed “Big Glo,” played big for Vandy last fall, not conceding a sack all season and only allowing 2 quarterback hits.
One of those stellar performances by Hubbard came in that special win over Alabama, when the Commodores shocked the college football world by taking down the Tide. Now, a year later, Vanderbilt football has enlisted Hubbard with being a cheerleader of sorts in getting its fans fired up for the Week 6 showcase game.
Here is the video that will surely get a few hits from Vandy fans on Friday night, and maybe into Saturday morning:
