Velus Jones Jr. is really fast.

The 25-year old rookie speedster was the SEC Co-special teams player of the year in 2021, an All-SEC 1st team selection and one of the top returners in the conference. When the Chicago Bears drafted him in the 3rd round of the NFL Draft, they knew they were getting an elite returner who also has the potential to be a dangerous slot receiver.

Jones missed the Bears’ first preseason game against the Chiefs last week and made his debut against the Seattle Seahawks Thursday night. In the first half, Jones returned a 60-yard punt 48-yards, narrowly missing a touchdown had he received one more block.

Jones, a former USC receiver who transferred to Tennessee in 2020, had a stellar sixth year in college. He caught 62 passes for 807 yards and 7 touchdowns while returning 41 kicks and punts for a combined 900 yards and 1 touchdown.

If he keeps up his college production he’ll be a fan favorite in the Windy City for seasons to come.
