The Florida Gators (5-3, 3-3 SEC) snuck into the College Football Playoff rankings at No. 24. Jon Sumrall‘s team has no margin for error down the stretch if it wants to make a CFP run, but a Week 11 game against Kentucky looms large as a great opportunity to boost its playoff odds.

For the game in Lexington to matter in Gainesville, the Gators must beat the Oklahoma Sooners this weekend. And that task, seemingly, is going to remain more difficult than it otherwise would be, thanks to injury. According to the SEC’s initial injury report, wide receiver Vernell Brown III is doubtful for Saturday’s battle with the Sooners.

Brown, a sophomore wideout, hasn’t played for Florida since Week 4’s 52-28 victory over Ole Miss. The Gators were hopeful to have him back for their Cocktail Party matchup against the Georgia Bulldogs, but he was unable to return.

Florida is turning to Tramell Jones at quarterback for the Sooner matchup. The Jacksonville native made his first career start for the Gators on Oct. 17, when they traveled to Austin to face Texas. Jones posted 196 total yards and two passing touchdowns while leading Florida to a 27-24 victory over the now No. 7 Longhorns. He’ll look to complete the Red River Rivalry sweep vs. Oklahoma at 7:45 p.m. ET on Saturday night (SEC Network).
