Star Florida Gators wide receiver Vernall Brown III will not suit up for the Gators during Saturday’s battle against the South Carolina Gamecocks, according to the final SEC availability report Saturday morning.
Brown was considered a game-time decision heading into Saturday’s matchup.
That’s a rough blow for the Gators, who are looking to get back on track after suffering a blowout loss to Mizzou in Week 5. Brown missed last week’s game and is dealing with a knee injury.
Brown was Florida’s leading receiver entering last week’s game against the Tigers, but has since been surpassed by Dallas Wilson as he continues to miss time. So far this season Brown has totaled 17 receptions for 271 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Brown is the shiftiest player on the team and often the shiftiest player on the field. His mere presence on the field makes the Gators offense that much tougher to defend, which definitely played a part in Florida’s poor showing last week against Mizzou.
The Gators need a big outing on Saturday. Jon Sumrall‘s squad had some major momentum following Week 4’s win over Ole Miss, and now need another boost against a South Carolina squad that has once again struggled to close out close games.
